What Lies Beyond Sight? Applications of Ultraportable Hyperspectral Imaging (VIS-NIR) for Archaeological Fieldwork

This paper discusses the use of a small ultraportable hyperspectral camera in VIS-NIR (Visible-Near Infrared) range for archaeological fieldwork and its hardware, data processing workflows, spectral information that can be used situ screening. Hyperspectral imaging is widespread, non-destructive analytical technique various disciplines highlighting invisible patterns mapping signatures selected targets. In archaeology, it has mostly been applied remote sensing satellite imagery to uncover about features are hidden underground. Targeted applications have developed last few years, opening new perspectives material analysis based on mapping. Recent advances portable instrumentation led development rugged cameras directly field investigating different materials.
